How does Prompt & Present make money?

Prompt & Present is free to use. It earns money one way: when someone follows a gift link from a list to Amazon and buys, Amazon pays us a small commission. The buyer pays the same price as anyone else, and the person who made the list pays nothing.

Who pays the commission?

Amazon does. Prompt & Present is part of the Amazon Associates program, which pays websites for sending shoppers to Amazon. Every gift link on a list carries a short tag that tells Amazon the shopper came from us. If that shopper buys, Amazon pays us a percentage of the sale.

Amazon asks every site in the program to say so in these words: as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. The same line sits above the gifts on every list and at the foot of every page.

Does the buyer pay more?

No. The price on Amazon is the same whether you arrive from a gift list, from a search, or by typing the address yourself. We show no product prices on the site at all; the current price is always the one on Amazon's own page.

What counts as a purchase?

Only a sale counts. Nothing is paid for making a list, sharing one, viewing one or clicking a link. Amazon decides which sales qualify under its own rules. It can also pay us for other things the shopper buys in the same Amazon shopping session, which lasts up to 24 hours, not only the gift they clicked.

Does the commission decide which gifts go on a list?

No. Your own assistant decides what belongs on your list, from what it knows about you, and ranks the ideas before we see them. Our part is to find a specific product on Amazon for each idea, in your assistant's order. When an idea has no matching product we move to the next one, and use an Amazon search link only if too few ideas match. The step that chooses products is not told what any product would earn us, and no brand pays us to appear.

Money does shape one thing: every link goes to Amazon. If the right gift for you is not sold there, the list cannot link to it today.

What does Amazon tell Prompt & Present about a purchase?

Amazon tells us which products were ordered through our links. It never tells us who ordered them, and we do not connect its reports to a person or to a list. So we cannot see who bought what, and for now a list cannot show which gifts have already been bought.

Does Prompt & Present sell my data or show ads?

No to both. There are no ads on the site, and we do not sell personal data. We do pay for ads on other sites to tell people about Prompt & Present, and we measure whether those ads lead to lists being made. The privacy page says exactly what is stored and what is measured.

Who runs Prompt & Present?

Wheatley Consulting Inc, a New York corporation. The About page says more, and the affiliate disclosure repeats the short version of this page.
